St. Louis, Mo., April 12, 2017 – Washington University in St. Louis had six student-athletes named to the USA D-3 Soccer Men's and Women's Soccer teams that will tour Brazil in 2017. In addition, women's soccer coach Jim Conlon will serve as the head coach of the women's team.
Freshman Taylor Cohen, senior Lizzy Crist, sophomore Maggie Crist and sophomore Darcy Cunningham will represent the WashU women's soccer team, while sophomore Kyle Perez and freshman Jonathan Garske will represent the men's soccer team.
"It is extremely humbling to be asked by Mr. Smith to coach this team," said Conlon, the 2016 D3soccer.com National Coach of the Year. "Any time you can wear the red, white and blue and represent this great country, it is an honor. We have a great group of student-athletes that will enjoy a once in a lifetime experience."
The USA D-3 Soccer tour will run from May 29-June 7. The teams will begin with orientation in Orlando before flying to Sao Paulo, Brazil for practice on May 30 and games on May 31 and June 1.
Teams will then travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for two additional games on either June 3, 4 or 5. While in Brazil the teams will experience educational, cultural and social aspects of Brazilian life through city, school and sports club visits.
The team will be staying on the famous Copacabana Beach in Rio and touring the Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain, two of the most recognizable landmarks in the world.
The USA D-3 Soccer Teams will also visit sites and venues from the 2014 Soccer World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics.
